I have certainly come across people in my time working on websites who feel that getting a site hosted and running online is too difficult for them. In my opinion though, there hasn’t ever been a time such as now when setting a website has been so easy. Bluehost, a web hosting provider agree with me on this point and have recently added a video to their Youtube channel describing “How websites work.”
10 to 15 years ago I would have had to agree that creating a website was beyond the means of the average person, even those wanting a blog. WordPress has however made things a hell of a lot easier and when I started my first website, it really wasn’t long before I had everything set up how I wanted it. Obviously Bluehost have an ulterior motive for saying that getting a website is easy, but these videos are providing info for both users and non-users, which is extremely generous. In a press release, Daniel Hardy, CEO of Bluehost said:
“It has helped a number of our customers and other individuals learn more of the basics of web hosting, so that setting up your own website is not so daunting. We’ll continue to add more and more videos that will help anyone, even if they are not our customers, learn how to get started and manage their own website.”
Currently as well as, “how websites work,” Bluehost are offering guides to WordPress, SEO, eCommerce sites, domain name, FTP and email accounts. When I first started out these guides would have been essential viewing and if you are considering setting up a website for the first time, it might be a good idea to check out a few to see if it is something you can get your head around.
For me, the hosting and website creation has been the easiest part, SEO and promoting the site has been the most arduous and tricky aspect. It really isn’t that difficult setting up a site and I would definitely give it a try if you are interested or intrigued by the idea.
